Thirroul

Ok, so what I really wanted to do with this diary is plot my adventures around the world. But, that seems a bit blinkered because, ultimately, stuff that happens to you in every day life is just as important to remember or look back on. It's just that going travelling encourages me to write down my thoughts and sights, presumably because my routine has been broken. In Sydney, I'm back to having a routine; a routine comprising of not much at all.

My friend St H is in Sydney and I've played some golf with him on a couple of courses. We've played Moore Park a couple of times and The Coast once. The Coast was impressive, especially since I haven't played many coastal / links courses. Here's a picture (once again taken with my phone):

I lost an uncounted number of balls, especially on the 2nd nine where I should have left my driver in my bag. Some holes were ridiculously short, like the one pictured where I hit a wedge second - it's a par 5.

So St H and I are heading off to Melbourne tomorrow and taking our clubs. We plan on driving down the coastal road all the way to Adelaide and then back. Photos and stories hopefully to follow.

So, Thirroul. Thirroul is one of two places I have been outside of Sydney since I got to this gargantuan country (the other place being Wiseman's Ferry on the Hawkesbury River). J and I were supposed to go to the Hunter Valley with St H and a whole lot of other people but decided at the last minute to pull out because of a booking problem. So it was an impromptu decision which, luckily, turned out to be a good one. It's a little seaside town about 70km south of Sydney so is easy to get to on the South Coast line. The railway snakes through gum forests which were truly impressive.

We stayed at a pub called Ryan's the first night and at a B&B called Lazy Bones the second and spent our time picnicking on the beach. It was lovely. J and I had a big argument on Saturday night but that didn't dampen things too much in my opinion.
