I've been in Sydney for more than three months now and I still haven't managed to find a proper job. Thanks to the job I got at the defunct charity I have some money to spend but I am struggling to find an IT job, despite applying for dozens. It's quite frustrating. I suppose I should just find any old job. But then I think, if I'm doing any old job then I might as well go around Australia doing odd jobs and not stay in Sydney doing that. I think I may have seen enough of Sydney by now.
After J got back from work yesterday I walked to Sydney Park with her. You have to meander through Erskineville's bungalow-lined streets before you get there. It's nice and quaint in Erskineville but there are no pretty little pubs dotted around like there are in England. I think that's a shame. Anyway, the park is inner Sydney's third biggest according to Wikipedia. It has the remnants of an old brick factory in one of its corners.
Brick chimneys
Old machinery left over from the factory
Come to think of it, Sydney is a good place to be unemployed. It's not an ancient metropolis like some European cities but it almost makes up for that with it's beautiful environs. Obviously I would try and justify my being here because part of me is tempted to just leave and travel the rest of the country. But now I have a girlfriend, for better or worse. I'll see how it goes; I'm never one for hard and fast decisions.
I'm going to Dympna now to help a man make claim to the two fridges there and pack them into his station wagon. Fun.
