Sunday

J and I spent Sunday sitting in coffee shops and eating dumplings in the park. We also watched Changeling at the Dendi. It was very good indeed. Who would have thought that Clint Eastwood would become such a good director? The story is primarily about the corruption and incompetency of the LAPD and how this affects a single mother who has lost her son. It is a story that, in the wrong hands, could have Hallmark written all over it but Eastwood keeps the story moving without much sentimentality.

He is helped by excellent performances from John Malkovich (a fiery preacher who castigates the LAPD on his radio sermons) and Jeffrey Donnavan (an arrogant and inept police captain). Malkovich, particularly, is playing his ideal character and it would have been nice to see more of him. I think I will go and see Gran Torino next weekend.

We had a look round the grave yard at St. Stephens church too. It's been taken over by teenagers to smoke pot and ride their BMXs.
